If you have been dreaming about hopping on a plane and flying to Phuket (again), the time may come sooner than you think!
The Thai government plans on waiving the quarantine requirements in Phuket and welcoming international tourists who are vaccinated against COVID-19 starting from 1st July 2021, which would make it among the first destinations in the world to reopen its borders amid the pandemic.
Thailand’s Tourism Minister Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn also announced that a proposal by Phuket’s private sector and business groups to inoculate at least 70% of Phuket’s population to achieve herd immunity before reopening to ensure the health and safety of both the island’s residents and tourists was approved.
The government intends to test the reopening initiative in Phuket first before moving to other main tourist hotspots in order to help reboot the country’s tourism sector, which contributed to one-fifth of the economy prior to the pandemic.
The reopening of Phuket’s borders offers an optimistic outlook on the island’s future. Well on its path to recovery, Phuket has been garnering the interests of not only travelers, but also those of investors who are looking to own condominiums in the region.
With international education systems, exceptional healthcare, and a low cost of living compared to many cities around the world, Phuket offers an attractive lifestyle and is considered by couples and families as an ideal place to build a second home. With great rental return programs, it’s also a great place to invest in.
